Dear Parents and Carers
Term 4 is now upon us and as always promises to be another brief and busy encounter. There are a number of events that take place at the end of each year in addition to the normal classroom activities that have been planned. Staffing, class allocations and reporting are three of the larger items that need to be finalized. In speaking with the School Board and staff this week, I reiterated to them that there is no intended secrecy around how our school is staffed or classes allocated. Staffing of classes take a great deal of consideration and is only kept confidential so that when plans are presented to parents and carers they are as complete as possible. This helps ensure that there is minimal confusion around class teachers. I am aware that at this time of the year there is also a great deal of speculation surrounding this process. I would ask for your patience during this period so that we can adequately assess and plan our staffing for 2019. Speculation and conjecture can cause a great deal of disruption to a school community and in turn increased levels of anxiety at a time of year where everyone is looking forward to a well deserved break. I can assure you that as soon as our staffing is finalized this will be communicated to families. Again thank you in advance for your patience.
Over the holiday period our hall floor was set to receive an upgrade. Unfortunately due to a scheduling conflict the company was unable to complete the set work. This has now been rescheduled to the Christmas holiday period. As disappointing as this was, the final product will certainly be worth the wait. We look forward to starting the New Year with a rejuvenated hall.
A reminder that our next Parent and Friends meeting will be held next Tuesday the 16th at 6pm in the school staff room. All are welcome to attend.
Have a great week
Tim Ham
Welcome back to Term 4. I hope that you and your family had a wonderful holiday break. With such a short term please take note of the following dates:
Mission Month Liturgy - 24th October at 2pm
Socktober Fundraiser - 30th October
Year 6 Rite of Passage - 27th November
Christmas Concert - 29th November
End of Year Mass - 5th December
October is World Mission Month
World Mission Day is celebrated every year in every country wherever there are Christians committed to building a better world for all of God's people. It is about looking for ways to show God's love to those in our world who are in most need.
A part of Jesus’ mission on earth was to create a world where we can all live a fully dignified life. Jesus invited us to be His hands and feet and to go out to those in our community and beyond to meet and help the poor, the homeless, the sick, the suffering. During the whole month of October we focus on this mission as we try to bring love, mercy, forgiveness, peace and justice for the world.
Each year during world mission month we have a different focus country and different theme. The theme for 2018 is Healing a Nation through Education with a special action focus on the country of Myanmar.
Myanmar is the largest country by area in mainland Southeast Asia and is bordered by China, Bangladesh, India and Thailand. It has a diverse population of around 53 million people with approximately 135 separate ethnic groups.
Despite its size and location, Myanmar is also placed in the lower half of the region’s economies, with around one quarter of its population estimated to be living below the poverty line. Myanmar is faced with many challenges today. Much of Myanmar’s modern history has been characterised by civil and ethnic conflict. Active conflict zones still exist in parts of the country.
This year to help support Catholic Missions and the people of Myanmar we are participating in Socktober. On Tuesday 30th October everyone is invited to wear crazy socks and bring a gold coin donation. Our very own Mr Bennett will be hosting a Rock Your Socks Off disco during lunch time on this day.
2019 Sacramental Program
Prayer
Dear Lord, we pray for our own school community, that we may always share in the mission of Jesus in bringing fullness of life to all God’s children.
Amen
I hope you all have a wonderful week.
God Bless
