Dear Parents and Carers,
With just over 4 weeks remaining left in the school year our teachers have been busy as they prepare for end of year assessments and report cards, and the school prepares for 2021. At this stage, our staffing is falling into place and I am hopeful that we will be able to announce this to the school community in the near future.
Yesterday we welcomed our 2021 Prep students. There were lots of excited faces and many requests to come back tomorrow. They were thrilled to receive their new Library bags and a very special Joey’s water bottle. It was great to welcome our new Prep class and many new families to our school community.
If your child isn’t returning to St Joseph’s in 2021 (other than our Year 6 students), could you please let the Office know as soon as possible. This will assist us in our planning for next year. Just a reminder that the 2020 school year finishes on Friday 4th December at 12pm.
There has been an increasing number of students arriving at school very early. Please remember that there is no supervision of students until 8am. If you need to drop your child/ren off early please contact OHSC to arrange before school care. This is a matter of safety for our students. Thank you for your cooperation regarding this.
Our final P&F Meeting for the year will be held on Tuesday 17th November at 6pm. I encourage you to come along and join this wonderful parent engagement opportunity. As always, there will be childminding available. I hope to see as many of you as possible on the 17th November.
Have a wonderful week
Take care
Amanda
Spirit of Catholic Education Awards
Across Queensland, individuals - staff members, parents/carers or volunteers who are making an outstanding contribution to the life of the school community in one or more areas are recognised with The Spirit of Catholic Award.
Last week, St Joseph’s nomination for 2020, Jason Bennett, was presented with his award by Townsville Catholic Education's Executive Director, Ms Jacqui Francis.
Congratulations to Jason and warm thanks to him for all he does for our St Joseph’s community.
Altar Servers
This week, some of our St Joseph’s students were very excited to begin altar serving training. Thanks to Seana Mokrzecki and Fr. Siby for assisting these children in their faith journey.
Remembrance Day
This coming week, we will remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. Our senior leaders will lead the school in a special liturgy to remember all who died, and those who lived to return home, bearing the scars of war in their bodies, in their emotions and in their lives.
God of love and liberty,
We thank you for the peace and security we enjoy.
It was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in time of war.
We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain, but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come.
We ask this prayer in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Have a great week.
Take care and God bless.

Book Club
This has been handed out to students and was the last for the year.
Naidoc Week Preparations
Our students are preparing for Naidoc week. With our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students everyone will learn the ‘Our father’ in traditional language. Over the next 2 weeks students will also be reading books to understand more about our Nation’s first people. The whole school is creating a special art installation which will be displayed for all to see.
Year 2 Drama
Our Year 2 classes are preparing their fairy tale puppet shows. As part of their drama lessons they had to build structures to create the setting for their puppet play. We had the troll’s bridge and the three little pigs houses.
Australia Reads: Celebrate the 2020 Australia Reads campaign Nov 11th. Next week set aside 1 hour to just read with your family.
Celebrate and enjoy books together.
Happy Reading
