Dear Parents and Carers,
In a year where lots of events have been cancelled, this week we have had some great news. The Townsville Primary Schools Sporting Association has confirmed that the A Schools Swimming Carnival will go ahead on Tuesday 17th November. For those students selected in our Putney Swimming Team, a letter regarding participation and training times will come home this week. We wish our Joey’s Swimming Team all the very best.
Next Friday (30th October) is World Teachers’ Day. This day is an opportunity to thank our teachers for the wonderful work that they have been called to provide for our students. While our teachers work incredibly hard every year, this year they have faced the added pressure of adjusting to online learning. They adapted quickly to this new way of teaching and have taken many of the lessons they learnt during this time and have applied them to their regular everyday teaching in their classrooms. I can’t say enough how proud I am of what they have achieved this year and I am sure that you will join me in thanking them for what they do each and every day to provide a supportive, rich and engaging learning environment for our students.
We would like to congratulate Olivia Roveglia who has taken on the role of P&F President. Olivia is a long time parent of the school and is very familiar with the community. We thank Olivia for taking on this role. Our final P&F Meeting for 2020 will be on Tuesday 17th November. I encourage you to consider attending as it is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and is another way to participate in our school community.
As the end of the year approaches, information around end of year events will be communicated to families. Please carefully read the newsletter each week for this information. Also, keep an eye out for communication from teachers around their end of year plans with their classes.
I hope you all have a wonderful week.
Amanda
Mission Month
A huge thank you to all of our families who have supported our Mission Month fundraising by wearing crazy socks last Friday and participating in the Guess the Number of Lollies in the Jar competition. Watch this space to see who our winner will be! We raised $523 which will go to help support Catholic Mission projects in Cambodia. We can always count on the generosity of our Joey’s families. Thank you again for your ongoing support.
Rosary and Class Masses
Thank you to Fr Siby for leading our students in saying the Rosary over the past 3 weeks. The students have all enjoyed participating in this month of the Rosary and have done an amazing job with their reverence towards this special prayer. While the Rosary is explicitly taught in Year 5, the prayers of the Rosary are introduced and taught from Prep all the way through to Year 5.
Thank you also to Fr Siby for leading our classes in Class Mass. Each year level has now attended a Class Mass.
3 Minute Retreat
Engage in a spiritual “time out” to reconnect with God and experience peace of mind. Stop and reflect at the beginning or end of the day. Download a 3 Minute Retreat app for more regular use. Commit yourself to having times of stillness and silence throughout the week.
3 Minute Retreats can also be found here.
Have a great week
Take care and God Bless

Book Club: Please have all orders in by Oct 23rd. If possible I would like all orders done online as this ensures that all orders have a name and the right amount of money.
Junior Librarians: This term the junior librarians are busily organizing activities for our students at lunch time. There will be origami on Mondays, bracelet making on Wednesday, art classes on Thursday and chess & finger knitting on Friday.
Prep literature lesson: Prep read the story Belinda by Pamela Allen and dressing up as the characters was a lot of fun. Afterwards the characters were interviewed by the class to discover how they were feeling in different parts of the story.
Year 5 Litpro Stars: Congratulations to Darby Whiteley, Matisse Reibel and Zachariah Thomson for going up a level.

This organization reviews what your kids want to watch before they watch it. It reviews films, games, and apps for children aged 2 and up. It does have an American slant but definitely has some useful information including some research reports and surveys. It also has an education section with some cyber safety tips and activities
Overdue Books – Look out for an email that may have come to you this week to notify you if your children still need to bring back their books after the holiday break. Thanks for your support.
Happy Reading
