Month of the Rosary
In the Catholic Church, the month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions.
The Rosary draws its mysteries from the New Testament and is centered on the great events of the Incarnation and Redemption with each decade referring to an event in the life of Jesus and Mary. Each of our classes will be attending the Rosary with Fr Siby. By engaging in this beautiful prayer we can help our students draw closer to Jesus and Mary.
10th Anniversary of the Canonisation of St Mary of the Cross
October the 17th is the Anniversary of the Canonisation of St Mary of the Cross. This Saturday marks 10 years since Mary MacKillop became Australia's first saint. The theme for this celebration is “Take Fresh Courage” a quote written by Mary MacKillop on 21 May 1877. All of our classes will be participating in a special Prayer celebration to help commemorate this momentous occasion.
Mission Month
World Mission Sunday is celebrated around the world on the second last Sunday in October. It expresses a commitment to build a better world for all of God's people, a world where everyone has all they need to live a dignified and fulfilling life. This year, World Mission Sunday is 18th October 2020.
This year in his World Mission Day Message 2020 Pope Francis urges us to continue Jesus’ mission:
“…. the mission of Jesus in history …. sends us everywhere so that, through our witness of faith and the proclamation of the Gospel, God may continue to manifest God’s love and in this way touch and transform hearts, minds, bodies, societies and cultures in every place and time.”

Have a great week.
Take care and God Bless

Book Club: Your children will receive a book club brochure this week. Please have all orders in by Oct 23rd. If possible I would like all orders completed online as this ensures that all orders have a name and the correct amount of money. If you have a pocket money system maybe the children can give the money directly to you. Thanks for your support.
Junior Librarians: This term the junior librarians are busily organizing activities for our students at lunch time. There will be bracelet making on Wednesday, art classes on Thursday and finger knitting on Friday.
Friday Morning: The library is open for children to come in and borrow, read, finish homework, or play chess. Daniel O'Brien is organising a chess Competition.
Story Box Library: This program is free to all members of a public library including Townsville City Council. It is a collection of fabulous stories being read by awesome authors and lovely librarians. Give it a go if you haven’t borrowed this week. Some Prep children are involved with entering a Story Box Library competition promoting reading and storytelling. If we win it means our school receives some fabulous prizes.
Year 5 Litpro Stars: Congratulations to Phoebe Morris, Riley Webb, Lauren Barry, and Tahliah Webster for going up a level.
Silver level winners receive a free book from Book Club. Congratulations Tahliah Webster, Zachariah Thomson, Matisse Reibel, Harper Ryan, and Lua Jennings.
Overdue Books – Look out for an email coming to you this week to notify you if your children still need to bring back their books after the holiday break. Thanks for your help with this.
Happy Reading
Belinda Walker (Teacher Librarian)
