Dear Parents and Carers
With only a few weeks remaining in the term there are still many significant events that will take place in this space.
Parent- Carer - Teacher interviews are scheduled for Week 10 and will provide the opportunity for parents and carers to speak directly with teachers regarding students and their progress. Our Year 6 class will head to camp in Week 9. We are very grateful to the hosts at Wambiana Station and to our dedicated Yr 6 teachers for the enormous amount of work that has gone into making this camp a possibility in a year of great uncertainty. I am very confident that it will be a great experience for our school leaders.
Today is the final of the Walla Rugby Challenge. This has been running for a number of weeks and our students have loved being a part of this event. A huge thank you to Mr Meekin and the Yr 6 Sports Leaders for making this competition possible and such a success. The final was a tightly contested affair and while I won't steal the thunder by revealing the result, it was a great game with excellent sportsmanship display throughout. Thank you to all involved.
Our Year 1's are excited about their trip to Billabong Sanctuary tomorrow. I am sure they will have a great time and hopefully not feed any teachers to the crocodiles!
Over the last few weeks there have been a number of students arriving at school very early, well before any teachers are on duty. Outside School Hours Care operates before school for families that need this facility. Teacher's begin duty at 8am, however if students are arriving at a time significantly prior to this then they should be utilising the OSHC facility. This ensures the safety and well being of these students. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Finally this week our P&F is currrently searching for a new president. If you are interested or even curious about what the role may entail please let me know. I am more than happy to meet with you to discuss - obligation-free!!
Have a great week.
Tim
Mercy Values - Excellence
This week our classes begin their focus on our Mercy Value of Excellence. When exploring our values it is important that we look at each value through the lens of the Gospels, St Joseph our Patron Saint and Catherine McAuley founder of the Mercy Sisters so that we can fully understand how the value applies to us here at St Joseph’s. Today we will examine the value of Excellence through each of these lenses.
In the book of Colossians, we are told that “in all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were working for the Lord.” Everything that we do should be based on what Jesus taught us in the Gospels. Jesus taught us about love and community but he also taught us about excellence. Jesus taught us about living a life of excellence in the Gospels when he said, “I have come in order that you might have life – life in all its fullness”. When we think about the value of excellence we consider:
- Doing our best (seeking to accomplish something worthy and admirable and trying hard)
- A fair go for everyone
- Confidence
- Transformation
- Optimism
(taken from TCEO Gospel Values document)
St Joseph was a man who demonstrated excellence. St Joseph worked as a craftsman and as well as being the patron saint of families he is also the patron saint of workers. St Joseph demonstrated excellence in his work, the way he cared for his family and in his obedience of God.
Catherine McAuley demonstrated the meaning of excellence. She showed excellence in her work and in the way she treated others. She used their gifts and talents to make the world a better place and to help those around them Catherine McAuley once said, “We must strive to do ordinary things extraordinary well”.
Prayer
Loving God, thank you for your presence in my life, for being with me and walking beside me. Help me to grow, to be the best I can be and to let my light shine as I strive for excellence in all I do. Show me how best to use the time and talents you have given me so that I may live a life of excellence. Help me to use all my opportunities wisely, that I may share, through service to others, the good gifts I have received from you. We make this prayer to you in Jesus’ name.
Amen
Have a wonderful week.
Take care and God Bless
Amanda

Book Week celebrations: I am happy to report that the students had a wonderful day. The new format was so successful that we are going to keep it. Instead of holding the parade and games all in the one area, we had students rotating through 4 areas. It was wonderful to see the clever costume designs marching to the year 6's song composed by them with Mrs Bennett. Buddy reading under the trees looked magical and all the characters reading to each other was beautiful. Down in the prep area the children had fun participating in the hands-on literature activities and of course in the library the kids met many characters through an interactive display.
Channel 9 School of the week: To top off our wonderful celebrations our school was featured on the news for school of the week. Our junior librarians did a great job with their interviews.
Marvellous 1D's, Cool 1C's and Deligent 1M's
Year 1 Reading Awards: Last week our Year Ones received an award to acknowledge their regular borrowing. When they have borrowed 25 books they receive this award. When they get to 50 books they receive a little prize. Well done to our year 1's.
Year 5 Litpro Stars: Congratulations to Estella Dobbins and Eamon Thorley for receiving their silver and gold certificate. They have read 50 books this year and answered the quizzes thus improving their reading ability.
Also congratulations to Greta Ramsay, Caitlyn Wiltshire and Lynette Njau for achieving silver and receiving a book prize.
Happy Reading
