St Joseph
St Joseph loved Jesus and was loved by Jesus in return. The scriptures reveal St Joseph was compassionate, caring and courageous. He was a man of action. Throughout the Gospels, he faithfully and unquestioningly obeyed the commands of God to unite and protect his family.
Everything we know about the husband of Mary and the foster-father of Jesus comes from Scripture. We know he was a carpenter, a working man. Despite his humble work and means, Joseph came from a royal lineage. Luke and Matthew disagree some about the details of Joseph's genealogy but they both mark his descent from David, the greatest king of Israel (Matthew 1:1-16 and Luke 3:23-38). Indeed the angel who first tells Joseph about Jesus greets him as "son of David," a royal title used also for Jesus.
We know Joseph was a compassionate, caring man. When he discovered Mary was pregnant after they had been betrothed, he knew the child was not his but was as yet unaware that she was carrying the Son of God. He knew women accused of adultery could be stoned to death, so he resolved to send her away quietly to not expose her to shame or cruelty. However, when an angel came to Joseph in a dream and told him, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins," he did as the angel told him and took Mary as his wife. (Matthew 1:19-25).
When the angel came again to tell him that his family was in danger, he immediately left everything he owned, all his family and friends, and fled to a strange country with his young wife and the baby. He waited in Egypt without question until the angel told him it was safe to go back (Matthew 2:13-23).
We know Joseph loved Jesus. His one concern was for the safety of this child entrusted to him. Not only did he leave his home to protect Jesus, but upon his return settled in the obscure town of Nazareth out of fear for his life. When Jesus stayed in the Temple we are told Joseph (along with Mary) searched with great anxiety for three days for him (Luke 2:48). We also know that Joseph treated Jesus as his own son for over and over the people of Nazareth say of Jesus, "Is this not the son of Joseph?" (Luke 4:22)

What are you grateful for this week?
Listen to this song of gratitude and, as the words are sung, think of something you are grateful for and pray words like these in your hearts- ‘Thank you God for your many blessings to us, I am grateful.’

Children will come to school dressed in their costumes and they are welcome to wear them for the day. Please ensure they have safe footwear. Children will come down with their buddy classes in this order to show off their book characters starting at 8.45am. If they bring their book that would be great.

Some of the educational activities that are evolving in preparation for our literature celebration are simply remarkable. Year 6 children have written a reading song to make reading look hip and fun. The Junior Librarians have recorded a mini play around our Alice in Wonderland theme. All the children participated in creating Rose Stories for our display. Besides our fancy-dress parade, P-3 children will be participating in an outdoor literature event. Children in 4-6 will go to Wonderland and explore books through an interactive display over the week of library lessons.
Wonderland: Thanks to Prudence Terry, Jo Ramsey and Gracie Signs, we have many curious creatures in our library with QR codes taking students directly to authors talking about how they write and illustrators teaching them how to draw. The children will participate in the activities over the week.
Year 6 girls using pastels to create a Tashi scene.
