Friday 26th June - Last Day of Term 2
Monday 13th July - First Day of Term 3
Friday 21st August - Book Week Celebration - Theme - "Curious Creatures"
Dear Parents and Carers
With the end of the term comes the hope that next term will see us start anew without distraction. Thank you once again for your support in what has been a difficult time for us all. I hope that you enjoy the school holidays and if you are travelling (however close to home) that you do so safely.
The article below I think is a good one for the situation we have found ourselves in this past 6 months. It is easy to look to better times ahead and miss the opportunities that lay before us right at this moment. With the mid-year break in mind, I thought it might provide some food for thought. I hope you enjoy.
Kind regards
Tim
At the end of this busy and challenging term, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support, kindness and patience while we navigated through some unknown territory. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful break. Whether you are going away or staying at home, stay safe, enjoy the time as a family and most importantly have fun! I look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.
I would also like to thank our staff who have consistently gone above and beyond throughout this term. From the way they embraced the challenges of online learning to providing extra assistance with drop off and pick up, our staff have been nothing short of amazing. The upcoming holidays are very well deserved. I feel so incredibly blessed to work with such a remarkable group of individuals.
God's Love
Over the last week, our Year 1’s have watched The Boy and the Ocean read by author Max Lucado. The story is about God’s love. God’s love is like the ocean. God’s love is like the mountains. God’s love is like the night sky. It’s always there, it’s always deep. It never ends. God’s love is special. Students were asked to write why they thought God’s love is special using the sentence stem God’s love is like…. Check out some of their great work!

Each class has an idea to inspire you if you can not think of a theme:
Prep - Fairy Tales
Year 1 - Eric Carle
Year 2 - Roald Dahl
Year 3 - Wizard of Oz
Year 4 - Chronicles of Narnia
Year 5 - Greek Mythology
Year 6 - Alice in Wonderland
On the dress up day children bring the book they dressed up as to share with their friends. It is a great day for promoting reading. Our celebration day will still run on Aug 21st. More updates next term. Check out my blog over the holidays as I will put up any book week ideas and competitions.
Attached is a colouring in about the theme to inspire you over the holidays.
Happy reading

Athletics@Joeys
Last Friday on a beautiful Townsville day, students participated in our Athletics@Joeys Sprint events. This was the culminating event in our month long program. The carnival involved all children from Prep to Year 6 and we even had a guest appearance from our kindy kids. Congratulations to all children who participated in the events for your efforts and enthusiasm. There were many fine performances and great examples of St Joey’s students ‘doing their best’. Thank you to our Year 6 leaders for your assistance at each of the events and to Mrs. Bennett for organizing the troops. Ryan were worthy overall carnival Aggregate champions in one of the closest finishes in years. Faulkner were only two (2) points behind in the overall standings. Benjamin lifted the Spirit Trophy in a close three way contest.
A special thanks goes to Miss Donna for all of her behind the scenes work to ensure the smooth running of the events. Also, our groundsman Ben had our oval set up superbly for the students to give it their all. At this stage, it is unsure if the 2020 Interschool Athletics Carnival will still take place. A St. Joey’s Athletics team will be selected and published regardless of whether the carnival goes ahead. Despite conducting our carnival in a different way, it proved again to be an enjoyable experience where students showcased their talents and resilience.
