Sunday’s Gospel
John 20:1-9 - Mary of Magdala finds that the stone has been removed from Jesus' tomb.
In the Easter Gospel we hear about how the disciples found the tomb empty three days after Jesus' death. We are also told that they do not yet understand the Scriptures or that Jesus had been raised from the dead. That understanding gradually unfolded for the disciples as they began to experience the risen Lord. Similarly, our understanding of Jesus' Resurrection unfolds for us throughout our lives. In the weeks ahead, we will hear how the first disciples moved from confusion, doubt, and skepticism to faith. Their experience can teach us how we too might receive this gift of faith from God.

ANZAC Day
Thank you to 6MK who hosted our ANZAC Day Liturgy this week. We were very fortunate to have Major Jillian Joyce join us to give the ANZAC Day address. Major Joyce is also a St Joey's Mum which made her address even more personal for our school community. In her speech Major Joyce spoke about the history of the ANZAC's and that today ANZAC Day also recognises the involvement of all Australians, men and women, in all wars, conflict and peacekeeping operations. We heard about the ANZAC's endurance, courage and mateship that forged the legend of the ANZACs and how it is those qualities that not only members of the Australian Defence Force live by but that each one of us can apply to our everyday lives. Major Joyce spoke about how these qualities were evident during the recent floods and how even when soldiers houses were being inundated they were still out there helping others and saying "it's not all about me". Major Joyce told us that it is that statement along with the qualities of endurance, courage and mateship that defines the ANZAC spirit.
For all those that have made the ultimate sacrifice - May they rest in peace.
Lest we forget.
A Litany of Remembrance
In the rising of the sun and in its going down,
we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter,
we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring,
we remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer,
we remember them.
In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
we remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
we remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
we remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart,
we remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
we remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now a part of us,
as we remember them.

April 26th
National family Reading Month: In the past I have invited year 1 parents to come into the school for an afternoon of reading fun with our PJs, Page turners and Pizzas. This year we will launch reading month Friday May 3rd 8.35am with something a little different that involves the whole school.
A school reading challenge. What is the challenge? To have as many parents possible in our school reading to children. Please mark it on your calendars now.
Details
After teachers have marked the roll, we will invite parents to visit their child’s classroom and select a book they would like to read. The books will be in boxes outside the rooms.
The stories selected will be chosen with the following criteria:
- their literary merit
- to introduce new authors that are age appropriate
- to provide a story that allows for discussion, learning and growth.
- To make reading together an enjoyable experience
Depending on how many parents turn up for each class, the teacher will divide students into small groups for 20 mins of reading fun.
At 9.00 am students will resume class lessons. Prep parents are invited to come to the library for a presentation on ‘Helping your child become an keen reader”

Junior Librarian Awards: The following students have done an outstanding job with running our library lunch time program and will receive an award at our next assembly. Congratulations Mahalia Boyd, Bridget Boyle, Zahra Bligh, Violet Seri, Caitlyn Wiltshire, and Sera Torrisi. The next level is to earn their Junior Librarian Badge.
Litpro library reading Program: Our students in year 5 have got the reading bug with nearly all students receiving their first blue level award for reading. Children select a book each week at the library, read it then do a quiz earning points towards receiving a certificate. This program is tailored to individual reading levels which is fabulous.
Happy Reading Belinda Walker (Teacher Librarian)

The Race For Space is on!
Beachathon 2019 launches on Wednesday 22 May at Assembly.
I wonder who our Beachathon mascots - “Rocket Girl” and “Man on the Moon” will be this year!?
THANK YOU to Marissa Candy and the Marketing Factory for designing our awesome Race For Space logo!
Our goal this year is to raise money to purchase additional Flexible Learning Furniture for our classrooms.
This furniture will create exciting learning spaces that are flexible, mobile, engaging and adjustable – allowing our classrooms to be adapted as our students and their learning needs grow and change.
Fundraising:
Students will receive a sponsorship form from their classroom teacher on Beachathon Launch Day.
Parents can help their children to seek sponsorship and collect money from family, friends, colleagues and/or neighbours.
Students bring their sponsorship form and money to school for counting every Tuesday – starting Tuesday 28 May.
Money will be counted by our CCL’s and parent volunteers at 8:30am every Tuesday 28 May until Beachathon Day.
If you would prefer to pay directly into an account using your credit card, there is an option to go to the link on your child’s form that will take you to our secure online platform.
If you sponsor online, please ensure you put the child’s name and class you are sponsoring in the comments box.
Each class will track their fundraising efforts and these will be on display outside the office in the breezeway.
Incentive prizes for students fundraising efforts:
- Individual fundraising
- For every $20 raised per week, the student’s name will enter the prize draw for that week. For example, $20 = I chance, $40 = 2 chances etc.
- There will be a prize box at each assembly and if the student’s name is drawn, the student will be allowed to pull out a prize from the ‘Rocket Ship’ in a lucky dip type scenario.
- Class fundraising
- The class with the highest fundraising each week will receive a Zooper Dooper on Friday afternoon.
- The class teacher will receive a coffee voucher.
- Once a class reaches $1,000, they will receive a ‘homework free’ week.
Every student who goes into the draw each week gets additional chances to win prizes on Beachathon Day.
Thanks to our sponsors within the school community, there are fantastic prizes for students to win!
Sponsorship proposals for families with businesses will be sent out later this week.
