Dear Parents and Carers
Here we are at the end of another amazing year. It has been an incredibly busy year, but a highly successful one. With the validation process completed this year, the school can now focus on achieving the goals set for the next five years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have made this year a success.
Our Parents and Friends Association and School Board have worked alongside staff, parents and carers to assist with the future direction of the school, to build community and deliver important resources and facilities to the students of our school. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with them throughout the year and look forward to doing so again in 2019, as we chart a path for the school’s further development and growth. To the families and students leaving Year 6 and St. Joseph’s, thank you for your commitment and support of the Joey’s community during your time at the school. I hope that you take with you good friendships and fond memories of your time on The Strand.
I would like to thank our dedicated staff who consistently work to provide outstanding educational opportunities for our students. From daily classes to the many and varied ‘extras’ throughout the year, our staff willingly give of their time and talents. I would like to particularly congratulate Amanda Jones on her first year as APRE. She has done an amazing job. Congratulations Amanda . To the staff leaving this year, we thank you for everything you have added to our community during your time at our school. There is no doubt you will be missed. I would like to take this chance to wish you all the very best for your future endeavors. Please know that your time here has been greatly appreciated.
Finally to the students of St Joseph’s, especially our Year 6 school leaders, thank you! I have enjoyed working with them this year and am grateful for their leadership . As they move on to high school in 2019, I am sure you will join with me in wishing them all the very best for their futures.
I would like to wish you all a very happy and Holy Christmas and New Year. If you are travelling please do so safely over this busy time of year. I hope you enjoy the break and time with family and friends. I am looking forward to a bright and successful 2019.
Tim
It was wonderful to finish off the school year with our End of Year Giving Mass yesterday. All the students involved did a beautiful job and a special thanks to Fr Joseph for celebrating Mass with us. I would also like to thank Seana Mokrzecki for her assistance in setting up for the Mass. We also had the opportunity to say farewell to those students, families and staff who are leaving the St Joseph's family at the end of this year. We thank them for everything that they have done for our school community and wish them all the best for the next chapter in their life.
I would like to thank each and every one of you for making my first year at St Joseph's such a wonderful and memorable year. A special thanks to Tim Ham and Jan Oram as well as the Office Staff, Karen, Lorelle, Ali and Belinda for all of their help and support throughout the year. I look forward to working with you all again next year.
A Special Message from Mr Thomson Dear Parents and Students, On behalf of my family and myself I extend my sincere thanks for your prayers and support in our time of need. I wish you and your families all the very best for Christmas and the New Year. Take care and God bless you all. Regards Kevin Thomson |
I would like to wish everyone a happy, holy and safe Christmas and that your holiday is filled with lots of love, laughter and relaxation.
Merry Christmas and God Bless
Amanda

Just when we thought that we couldn’t possibly repeat 2017, our students have outperformed themselves in 2018. The year got off to an incredible start with our A School Swimming Carnival. We managed to achieve our most outstanding result in A schools, winning the Overall Aggregate trophy and the Average Trophy (based on student numbers). Our enthusiastic and well trained team were victorious over Townsville Grammar, with St Anthony’s showing great improvement from last year finishing 3rd. This results were quite extraordinary given the size of our school. We excelled at the Interschool Cross Country carnival, with each competitor giving it their all on the long Bicentennial Park Course. This year incredibly surpassed our recent Interschool Cross Country Carnival results. We had eight top ten finishes from our eighteen strong team. St. Joey’s were triumphant in winning the Interschool Athletics Carnival, collecting the Aggregate and Boys Aggregate Trophies. We secured second place in the Average and Girls Aggregate Trophies. Our team managed to hold off the strong Wulguru State School and St. Joseph’s Mundingburra teams.
Congratulations to our two record breakers, Charli Russell (9 Year High Jump) and Callum Scott (9 Years Shot Put) and to Jy Gasa on his selection in the NQ Athletics team. Congratulations to both St.Joey’s Rugby Union teams who participated in the annual TDRU Development Cup. We capped off a very successful day with our mighty senior team lifting the trophy (for the third year in a row) having won all of their pool games. A big thanks to our senior coaches Mr. Sadler and Mr. Morton who did a superb job in marshalling their troops. Our Year 6 Futsal Girls team triumphed at the TCEO Festival of Sports Day, bringing home the trophy. We participated in night time football at the NRL Development Cup and again enjoyed the hospitality of the Palm Island community at the Obe Geia Challenge. Our Netballers had a washout at the NQ Netball Cup, however their frustration was taken out when providing a stern test in the annual staff V Year 6 Netball team game. This year we had Tennis Townsville (Sporting Schools Grant), Basketball Townsville, T20 Blast Cricket and Townsville Golf conduct clinics at Joey’s. We recently farewelled our much loved NQ Cowboy Antonio Winterstein, who has been an integral part of our community for eight years. It has been an unforgettable year for Sport@Joey’s. We can now take a rest and prepare for another big year ahead.
