Dear Parents and Carers
As we come to the end of another highly successful term I would like to thank you for your continued support of our school. We have seen some amazing achievements this term thanks to the efforts of our staff, parents and students. Thank you for helping to make this possible.
This time of year is always busy as we begin making plans for the coming year. This involves staffing conversations and preparation of classes. During this time I would ask for your patience as we plan for the coming year. There will be staff changes as always and I would ask that we do not engage in speculation around what these changes may be. We will finalise our staffing as soon as possible and when this plan is fully formulated we will announce to our community as soon as we are able. Speculation only serves to create unnecessary anxiety, something that is not needed in the final term of the year. We are fortunate to have both a highly capable and stable staff at St Joseph's and at this time I am not anticipating any significant changes.
The same applies for class arrangements. Teachers work together to develop class lists, ensuring that they take into consideration what they know of the students and what they have seen at a school level throughout the year. A significant amount of time and effort goes into this process. Class lists will be finalised mid term 4 and students made aware of their class during step up day in the final week of the term. I appreciate your patience as we work through these processes.
Congratulations to our Readers Cup team that finished in the top 5 at the State Final last week. They did an amazing job and were part of a very close finish with 3 points separating the top 5. An awesome effort.
Enrolment Terms and Conditions
The Student Enrolment Agreement form contains the important conditions for enrolment in our Catholic Schools and Colleges. These terms and conditions are updated from time to time, and it is important that we communicate these and ensure access by our school communities. Please find below the relevant updated sections.
Enrolment Terms and Conditions
When a student is accepted for enrolment at our school, parents/carers/guardians sign a Student Enrolment Agreement which contains important terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are updated from time to time, and were last updated earlier this year.
The Conditions of Enrolment are available on our school website https://www.sjnwtsv.catholic.edu.au. Please contact the Principal if you would like to discuss the information contained in these documents.
Media/Photography/Video Consent for students
During the enrolment process, parents/carers/guardians consent to the use of images of their child. The consent is outlined below. Parents who wish to withdraw this consent should contact the school.
Photos, video footage and work samples of students are used regularly by the school for the purpose of acknowledging the efforts of the student/school, or for promotion, marketing or advertising the school or Catholic Education. Parents consent to the student being photographed or filmed for school, Catholic Education or Townsville Catholic Diocese related communication or for education purposes. Parents understand this may include media (e.g. television, radio, publications), school publications (e.g. newsletters, year books), online media (e.g. websites) and social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram). Please note the student’s name and voice may be included with the photograph/video. Parent’s understand it is their responsibility to notify the school if they do not wish to consent to the student’s photograph/ video appearing in any or all of the above, or if they wish to withdraw this authorisation and consent.
I hope you enjoy the upcoming break and return ready for action packed ending to the year.
Have a great week.
Tim
Yesterday, Sunday, 8th September, was the special feast of the birth of Mary, the mother of Jesus. We honour Mary as a Spirit-filled person who listened to God speaking to her. Mary showed the fruits of the Spirit in the way she lived her life. She can inspire us all and show us how to be patient, kind, joyful and hope-filled people so that we, too, can live out Jesus’ message.
Loving God,
You love us and want us to be happy.
Help us to use the gifts of the Spirit like Mary did.
May we be inspired by the qualities Mary showed and look to her as a model of kindness and goodness, patience and peace, love and joy.
We ask this prayer through Jesus, Your Son.
Amen.
On Wednesday, 21st August Joey's teachers came together for a Twilight Staff Meeting with a Religious Education focus. During the meeting, teachers engaged in deepening their understanding of hermeneutical understanding; an integral part of a school's Catholic Identity and continuing to develop the understanding of Catholic beliefs. Hermeneutical understanding is making meaning of Scripture for oneself and reflecting with others about the meaning made for them.
Teachers engaged in prayer, reflection, meditation and discussion about the Scripture of Matthew, one of the Gospel stories that underpins our school motto; Love God, Love Each Other. This meeting provided teachers time to be involved in teaching strategies to help their students engage and make meaning of Scripture during class RE lessons.

Readers Cup
Last week, our team of five—Isabelle, Scout, Evie, Julia, and Charlie—represented what it means to be a Joey’s kid at the State Finals in Brisbane. Through reading a variety of chosen books, working collaboratively, and answering a series of challenging questions, they made us all proud.
Joey’s placed in the top five out of 479 teams from across Queensland, finishing just 3 points behind the top team. It was a tremendous achievement for our students.
A big thank you to Mrs. Sloan, Miss Tessa, and Miss Bridgette for their hard work and preparation leading up to this outstanding result!
Congratulations to Joey's students who were recognised today for espousing the values of Love, Community and Excellence. Thank you for making Joey's an amazing place to be everyday.
