Dear Parents and Carers
With only a few weeks until our celebrations I would like to take this chance to invite you all to join in the events taking place over the weekend of the 19th - 21st. In particular I would like to encourage you all to the Gala Dinner on Saturday the 20th. You do not need to book a table, you can attend yourself or as a smaller group. You can ask for seating preferences and we will do our best to accommodate these. The celebrations are an opportunity for our school to join together to mark this historic achievement.
I sincerely hope you will join us for this special weekend.
Congratulations to our amazing cross-country runners today! A spectacular day set the backdrop for our cross country and junior fun run. It was wonderful to see so many families cheering on our students. Even with so many valiant efforts it was a landslide victory to Red Ryan, who finished with an impressive points total. Blue Benjamin won the Spirit trophy narrowly edging out Yellow Faulkner. With the Athletics carnival not far away I am certain the competition will be intense.
Prep 2024 interviews continue next week. It is always a pleasure meeting new families wanting to join our Joey's community. While we once again have many families joining our Prep classes next year we do still have limited vacancies available. If you know of a family or families interested in being a part of our school please encourage them to contact the school office for enrolment information.
Have a great week.
Tim
Celebrating Mother's Day
Mother's Day is just around the corner, and it is a special occasion to celebrate and appreciate the wonderful women who have played a significant role in our lives. It is a day to honour and acknowledge the sacrifices, love, and hard work that our mothers have given us.
As we all know, mothers are the epitome of love, care, and selflessness. They tirelessly work to provide for us, support us through our ups and downs, and help shape us into the people we are today. Therefore, it is only fitting that we take some time to show our gratitude and love for them.
This year, we have planned various activities to make this Mother's Day special for our mums, grandmothers, stepmother and significant women in our student's lives. We encourage all mothers to join us.
*Mother's Day Breakfast: Wednesday, 10th May at 8am. We will be hosting a breakfast of muffins and juice for all the mothers at our school.
*Mother's Day Liturgy: Wednesday, 10th May at 8:45am. Prep A and 5B will lead a special liturgy to honour and celebrate our mothers. All are welcome to join.
*P and F Mother's Day Market: Joey's P and F will be hosting a Mother's Day Market for all students to have time to purchase one gift for Mum or someone special in their lives. Market Money Envelopes are to be returned to your child's teacher by Monday, 8th May. Each class will have time to visit the market on Wednesday or Thursday. Each gift will be wrapped by the Joey's P and F volunteers. We thank them for their tremendous effort.

Sounds-Write Training Hosted by St. Joey's
This week our school has hosted training from Speld Queensland for Sounds-Write. Sounds-Write is a world-class systematic synthetic phonic program whereby students learn the code of reading and writing. Last year we began training our P-3 teachers with this evidence-proven practice to teach reading. We have continued to build this knowledge within P-3 and beyond. There were 22 people who attended this training from as far away as Brisbane.
We are fortunate to have such a great relationship with Speld Queensland to bring this highly sought-after training to the Townsville region.
All students are invited to design a logo for this year's Beachathon.
The theme for 2023 is WHAT IF...
Entry Guidelines-
*Design a logo is open to all Joey's students
*Only one entry per person
*All entries to be on A4 paper
*Can be hand-drawn or created on a computer

St Joey’s 2023 Cross Country Carnival & Fun Run
Our annual Cross Country was once again held at the stunning Anzac Park. We are so fortunate to have this incredible park on our doorstep and allowed to use it.
The day began with spirited cheering all the way to the event, led by our enthusiastic Year 6 leaders. Despite some early nerves, our competitors overcame any doubts and acquitted themselves with great persistence and endurance. It was inspiring to see fellow competitors supporting each other to complete the course.
After our races, we marched back to school knowing that everyone had given their best and enjoyed the event. Our presentation was held in our hall, where Ryan was presented the Aggregate trophy and Benjamin received the Spirit trophy, in a nail-biting finish with Faulkner.
Our Preps to Year 2 students enjoyed their ‘Fun Run’ on our school's ‘Townsville to Penola’ circuit. Thank you to the numerous parent helpers and our staff who embraced both events.
We wish our St. Joey’s Putney Cross Country Team all the best when they represent our school at the Townsville Schools Cross Country Carnival on Tuesday 23rd May.
