Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for your patience while we have been finalising staffing arrangements for the 2019 school year. Outlined below you will find the class teachers for 2019. At this time, I am very pleased to welcome a number of new staff to St. Joseph’s.
In 2019, the school will offer three full Prep classes. This is in response to an extraordinary demand for places in 2019. Townsville Catholic Education has given permission for this cohort to remain as three classes from Prep to Year 6.
In Year 1, we welcome Gail De Lange. Gail has a great deal of experience in early years education, working in Education Queensland schools extensively.
In Year 3 Tori O’Connor joins us following time in Mt Isa. Tori is a past pupil of St Joseph’s and we are pleased that she has made her way back to The Strand. Also joining the Year 3 team will be Siobhan Franzmann. Siobhan has previously worked in a number of schools in the Townsville Diocese. She will be sharing a Year 3 class with Annette Jaxon.
From Good Shepherd Rasmussen, Dianne De Jonge joins the Year 5 team. Dianne and her family have recently returned from Canada where Dianne took part in a teaching exchange in 2018. While not joining us from any other school, we are pleased to welcome back Marion Krewinkel after her time away. Marion will be sharing a class and working in Year 6 with Anthony Meekin.
Finally, joining us as our PE specialist is Corinn Westcott. Corinn has worked at both Marion and Ryan Catholic College as a PE specialist.
A very warm welcome to all the new and returning staff for 2019. I am sure you join with me in welcoming them to St. Joseph’s. We look forward to getting to know them and to working with them over the coming year.
Teachers have begun working on class lists for students and these will be communicated to families during the last week of the Term.
As always, should you have any questions regarding staffing, please contact me to discuss.
Kind Regards
Tim

Sunday’s Gospel
Mark 13:24-32 - Jesus teaches about the signs of the coming of the Son of Man.
Many things in our lives and in our world are subject to change. Yet all of us find security in relationships and values that endure. Foremost among these are our family relationships. We can confidently accept change if we know that we will continue to be loved by our family and by God. We help impart this sense of trust and confidence in our children with our daily assurances to them that nothing can change our love for them.
As you gather as a family, look through several family photo albums. Observe and talk about things that have changed in your family life over the years. Talk also about the things that have stayed the same. We do not need to fear changes in our family life because we know that the most important aspects of our family life do not change, such as our love for one another. The same is true with God and God’s love for us. Read Mark’s Gospel 13:24-32. Jesus teaches us that things in our world will change and that the world itself will one day end. We don’t need to be fearful because God’s love for us will never end. Conclude in prayer together thanking God his never-ending love for us.

Christmas Appeal
In the lead up to Christmas we will be supporting the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal and over the next two weeks classes will be collecting donations of festive food items to help brighten Christmas for those in our community who are experiencing hardship. These food donations will be used as part of our Giving Mass at the end of the year. If you would like to purchase additional gifts (toys, gift vouchers etc) there will be a separate hamper in the Office for these. We appreciate your support and generosity.
Lord Jesus, may our hearts be filled with compassion and love as we reach out to others in need. In your name we pray. Amen

Have a wonderful week.
God Bless
