Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to a busy and short Term 4. With so many events taking place this term it is important to stay in touch with what is happening with classes and around the school. It sounds crazy to say we only have 7 weeks left in the school year!
Last night 6 of our students participated in the Young Speechmakers competition for Townsville Catholic Schools. Having heard their speeches prior to the event I was very confident that they would be exceptional, and they were indeed. At the end of the evening, we had a student place in each category. Audrey Burbidge won the Yr 6 group, Ellie Guilfoyle placed second in the Yr 5 group and Isla Lorimer was highly commended in the Yr 4's. A special thank you to Olivia Montgomerie Yr 4, Amelia Sloan Yr 5 and Emerson Pump Yr 6 who thoroughly entertained the crowd with their amazing performances. Congratulations to our hardworking students, their teachers and their coaches.
Earlier this week we presented the Quest for Knowledge trophy to our Yr 6 team following their winning performance last term. Our school has had an amazingly successful year and it is wonderful to see our students performing at their best. Again thank you to our dedicated staff for their tireless efforts in supporting our students.
Last week we received some results for our 2022 NAPLAN testing. While the test is one small part of the data we collect for students it was terrific to see our overall data come back with significant improvements and all areas above national standards. Congratulations to our students and our teachers.
Have a great week.
Tim
Welcome Fr Jan
At Wednesday's assembly, we welcome Fr Jan Szweda, who is the new parish priest for St Joseph's Church. Fr Jan, who was born in Poland has come to Townsville after years of service in Melbourne, Alice Springs, Arnhem Land and Papua New Guinea.
We look forward to Fr Jan celebrating class Mass and other school significant school events with us.
Mission Month
October is Missions Month.
The World Mission Month of October is a time when we can teach our children to respect people from other cultures and reach out to those people, particularly children who live in poverty. It is an opportunity for reflection, prayer and support for the missionary efforts of individuals, communities and the whole Church. This year, students across Australia are encouraged to not only learn about Ethiopia and the work of the Church there but to do something extraordinary for Mission through fundraising, advocacy and prayers.
Our school community will come together in prayer for Catholic Missions on Wednesday, 26th October for whole school meditation. All are welcome to join us.

DAY FOR DANIEL
This year, Joey's students will support Day for Daniel.
On Friday, 28th October students are encouraged to wear red to school to raise awareness for child safety.
This year's theme is brave conversations.
Parents and educators are encouraged to start conversations about personal safety. Those conversations usually are uncomfortable and awkward but educate children and young people about their personal boundaries and strategies to protect themselves in unsafe situations, including when playing and socialising online.
More information about Day for Daniel can be found here.CRAZY SOCK DAY & Day for Daniel
Friday, 28th October
Wear colour socks and red clothing to school ~ gold coin donation
Monies raised will go to Catholic Missions and the Daniel Mocorombe Foundation.
Hope all have a wonderful few weeks,
Trina

Young Speechmakers
Last night our Joey's team represented our school proudly competing against 60 of the best public speakers from all Catholic Townsville schools in Yrs 4,5 and 6. The speaking competition was tough! Our team of superstars were winners the moment they arrived at the competition having already been selected from over 30 auditions.

Did you know you should travel before you are 30 as your brain shrinks and animals can hold occupations?
Thank you to Miss Higgins and Mrs de Lange for assisting our students to 'Step-IT-up'.

Instrumental Music in 2023
Dear Parents and Carers
As many of you know, our instrumental music program is extremely popular and places are regularly booked out. Enrolment in the music program for 2023 is now open and you can find the enrolment form here. St Joseph's offers tuition in guitar, bass guitar, piano, woodwind, recorder, drums and percussion, and singing.
More information on the instrumental program is available on our website here.
All current 2022 instrumental music students need to be re-enrolled for 2023 if they wish to continue lessons into the new year.
If your child is in year 2 to year 6 in 2023, then they are eligible to take part. I encourage parents that are considering enrolling their child/ren in instrumental music to do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Enrolments close on Friday 25th November.
Please let me know if you have any questions via email or by phoning the school office.
Kind Regards
Jason Bennett
