Dear Parents and Carers
Today we take time to recognise the outstanding contribution of our teachers. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated staff at St Joseph's who willingly share their time and talents with our students and the wider community.
While they make it look very easy I am incredibly aware of the amount of time and effort that our teachers invest to make our school the amazing place it is today. If you could hear the conversations I do, you would know that they are always focused on their work and their students. Their dedication to their profession is inspiring, and time and time again they go above and beyond what is asked of them.
When we witness amazing on a regular basis, it is easy sometimes to become accustomed this level of excellence. Today is a chance to remember that this standard of excellence comes at a cost. They are human and from time to time make mistakes, get worn out, weighed down, just as we all can. What can make a difference is just a simple thank you.
I hope that today or the next time you have an opportunity you also take the chance to simply offer them a thank you for the amazing job they do within our school.
I am proud to call them colleagues and to work alongside them every day. I am grateful for their dedication, inspired by their energy and humbled by the way they freely give of their time and talents.
Happy World Teachers Day to the amazing teachers at St Joseph's The Strand.
Have a great week.
Tim
'Taking Time' Art Show
This week, the Year 5A students were able to attend the closing ceremony of the Townsville Private Clinic Art Show. These students were involved in creating art pieces last term about taking time for well-being. The topic of taking care and time for your own well-being was a part of the Year 5 Health unit.
Congratulations to Bea Ferry. Bea's art piece was the 'People's Choice' winner for the children's category.
Thank you to Mrs De Jongh for providing a unique learning experience for the students in Year 5A.
Day for Daniel
Thanks to our students and staff who wore red to school today to promote the child safety message, 'Recognise, React and Report'. Students were involved in lessons about these messages during class time over the week.
World Teacher's Day
Today was World Teacher's Day. Today, our hard-working and dedicated teachers were recognised for their efforts with morning tea from Townsville Catholic Education.
Hope all have a wonderful week,
Trina
Well done to all our Maths games students for 2021. Schools from all over Australia, New Zealand and other Neighbouring Countries take part in these APSMO Maths games which involve five contests. All of the students worked hard over the last two terms to develop their problem-solving skills and techniques. Well done to our most improved recipients over the year, Indiana Lalor and Will Donovan. A special congratulations to Phoebe Morris, Audrey Burbidge and Atticus Rahmel who all received results in the top 2%.
Dear Parents and Carers
As we move towards the end of term 4 and the 2021 school year, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support of the music program at St Joseph's. I am so proud of our young keyboard players, guitarists, singers, woodwinds, recorders and drummers and they should certainly be proud of themselves for picking up their instruments and playing and singing and developing key skills.
I need to let you know of a couple of important points as we head to the end of the year.
- End of year Instrumental Music Concert (Virtual). All instrumental students will be recording a piece with their teachers over the next couple of weeks. This is an exciting opportunity for your child to record their tune, which will then be combined into concert footage with all other music students and released to parents on Monday 29th November. More information on this video release will be emailed to parents closer to the date.
- Enrolment into the 2022 Instrumental Program. Enrolment is now open for continuing and new students wishing to be involved in the program next year. Students in year 2 to year 6 have a variety of instrumental areas they can pursue. Please note that certain instruments are only available in certain year levels. For more information on the different instruments available and fees, please visit the school website here. Please note that parents of continuing instrumental students, as well as new students, need to complete the enrolment form here. Enrolments close on Friday 3rd December 2021 (The last day of term 4).
Please reach out to me via email if you have any questions about the above. I look forward to a musical end to 2021!

T20 Blast Cricket (Year 1 -3)
Our sporting Schools Cricket clinics for Years 1-3 have begun. The teachers and students reported that it was great fun and new skills were introduced including throwing, catching, fielding, bowling and batting. This will be an invaluable opportunity to learn new skills in fun, game-based lessons. The clinics will be conducted on Wednesdays (October 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24). These lessons will complement the existing PE lessons provided at Joey's.
Swimming Lessons P - Year 3
The students in Prep-Year 3 are enjoying their swimming lessons in Term 4. Lessons are conducted at Tobruk Pool with qualified instructors every Friday, Friday 8/10 (Week 1) to Friday 19/11 (Week 7). Students have a supervised walk to the pool each week. We appreciate our parent volunteers who are assisting with this walk. Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you are able to help out. The cost of the lessons will be included in Term 4 school fees. We are finding that our swimming lessons are an enjoyable and worthwhile experience for everyone involved. We thank Luc Senent from Tobruk Pool and his dedicated coaches for ensuring our students are afforded this wonderful opportunity.
