Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for your patience and understanding this week as the road works around the school continue. I am very grateful for the manner in which these changes, as inconvenient as they are, have been handled. The safety of all students is always our priority and this has been made easier by your patience and assistance.
Last week Jason Bennett and I had the opportunity to travel to Sydney to present our findings from the ICT trial that has taken place at St. Joseph’s this year. It was a pleasure to attend the conference and a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work that Jason, our teachers and students have undertaken this year. The trial has been very successful and it has been very pleasing to see our students and staff more engaged in exploring the possibilities that ICT can offer to learning opportunities. I am very grateful to Jason and our staff for embracing this opportunity and putting it to the test. We will present our findings from the trial to TCEO leadership in the coming weeks.
On Monday night I had the pleasure of attending the St. Patrick’s Speech Night. Apart from being a celebration of the year’s achievements it also focused heavily on recognizing the achievements of individual students. I was incredibly pleased to see many past St. Joseph’s students receiving academic and diligence awards. Great work to all involved.
Next Wednesday evening Wednesday 7th November we will be hosting our 2019 Prep information evening. This will be followed by a Prep open morning on Thursday 8th November. I am looking forward to seeing all of our prep students together for the first time on Thursday.
Have a great week.

Socktober
On Tuesday we participated in Socktober where we were raising money for Catholic Missions and the people of Myanmar. A huge thank you to Mr Bennett for hosting our Rock Your Socks Off Disco at lunch time. There were lots of crazy socks and cool dance moves happening. We raised nearly $380 which will be sent directly to Catholic Missions to help the people of Myanmar. Thank you for your donations.
All Saints Day
Thursday 1st November is All Saints Day. On this day the Church acknowledges those millions of people who now live in the presence of God forever. The Catholic Church has canonised some of these people over time. That is why Catholic Christians in particular continue to seek the prayers and intercession of saints to help them live the way of Jesus. On All Saints Day, we recall and pray with these saints. It is important to continue to tell these stories of saints and saintly people to our children so that they have ample models of people of faith for their own lives.

All Souls Day
Friday 2nd November is All Souls Day. On this day we remember our relatives who have died and pray for them. This day is part of the belief in the Church that our journey to God does not end with our earthly death. In some cultures, people visit graveyards and even eat picnics at the graves of loved ones, celebrating their belief in life after death and their ongoing connection with loved ones who have died.
Today, think of the names of family members and friends who have died and whose names you wish to place in prayer and remembrance before God. You may like to light a candle for these people and pray the following prayer:
Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord and may God's light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Day for Daniel
It was wonderful to see so many red shirts on Friday for Day for Daniel. We raised $384 which goes directly to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. Thank you all for your generous contributions.

Prayer for the Week
Loving God, You love each one of us unconditionally. Help us, through the power of your Spirit, to show some of that love to someone who really needs to know it today. May the goodness and kindness we show today, be a sign to them of your love. We make this prayer in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
Have a wonderful week
God Bless

Queensland Athletics Championships
Congratulations to our very own Jy Gasa on his outstanding achievements at the recent Qld Athletics championships held in Cairns. In the 100m event, Jy was third in his heat and semi final and made it to the final where he finished 5th for 11 year boys in Queensland. He followed up this remarkable effort by winning his 200m heat then running 7th in the final. We are very proud of Jy and he is a wonderful ambassador for both his school and North Queensland.
The Uniform shop will be open each Wednesday until the last week of School and then will sadly be closing it's doors. There is limited stock available for your 2019 purchases.
Uniforms are also available at the School locker.
