This week, we wish Chloe Campbell every joy and happiness as she says goodbye to Joey's to begin her family. We thank Chloe for her dedication and hard work over the past few years.
We congratulate Chloe Johnson on the birth of her baby girl, Ellie. Chloe and Ellie are doing well and hope to visit Joey's after the September holiday break.
Next term, our school will welcome Ms Ella Stone to the Year Two classroom. Ella is joining us after some time teaching in England and doing some relief work in some Townsville Catholic schools.
I wish you all a happy, safe, and restful holiday break and look forward to welcoming you all back to Term 4 on Tuesday 5 October.

This year, Mission Week will be celebrated from 18th October to 22nd October. The week at Joey's will include activities to raise funds for those who are less fortunate.
Students will be invited to make their own sock-ball for a shoot-out event.
We are seeking donations of clean old socks or T-shirts.
Donations can be placed in the baskets near the lost property shelf from the beginning of next term.
Thanks for your support.
NAPLAN Results
Individual NAPLAN results will be sent home today (17th September) for students in Years 3 and 5. Look for a large envelope to ensure you receive your child’s results. These reports must be kept for future use as secondary schools often request a copy as part of their enrolment process.
NAPLAN provides a snapshot of how children are performing in reading, writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and numeracy. Please get in touch with the school if you have any questions.

Townsville Catholic Education Events
Quest for Knowledge
Last week, four of our Year 6 students competed in Townsville Catholic Education's annual Quest for Knowledge. Quest for Knowlege is an "It's academic" style competition in which students from across the Diocese compete using the 'first-in; buzzer method answering a range of questions that cover literacy, numeracy, general knowledge, Indigenous studies, and current affairs.
'Joey's got Talent'; Greta Ramsay, Joseph Smith, Atticus Rahmel, and Caitlyn Wiltshire earned second place, answering a total of 193 questions correctly out of 240. The team was presented with their second-place medals by Mr Peter Stower, TCE Director of Learning and Teaching on Thursday. Congratulations to Greta, Joseph, Atticus, and Caitlyn!
Eco Warriors
On Tuesday, Year 4 and 5 students who are part of Joey's Environmental Awareness Group joined with other Townsville Catholic schools at the annual Eco Warriors event at St Clare's Catholic School.
Throughout the day, students learnt about the power of renewable energy and built solar lights for children living in energy poverty to be about to read and study when the sun goes down. Students created their own beeswax wraps, learnt about reef conservation and native bees.
Thank you to Miss O'Connor and Mrs Sloan for organising our students to attend.

Swimming Lessons P - Year 3
As part of our school's HPE program, the students in Prep-Year 3 will begin Swimming lessons in Term 4. Lessons will be conducted at Tobruk Pool with qualified instructors. Lessons will be undertaken every Friday, commencing Friday 8/10 (Week 1) and concluding Friday 19/11 (Week 7). Students will have a supervised walk to the pool each week. It would be greatly appreciated if some parents were able to assist with this walk. Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you are able to help out. The cost of the lessons will be included in Term 4 school fees. We trust that our swimming lessons will be an enjoyable and worthwhile experience for everyone involved. We thank Luc Senent from Tobruk Pool and his dedicated coaches for ensuring our students are afforded this wonderful opportunity. The timetable for lessons can be found here.

Book club

Tech Expo
Our Junior Librarians Brooke Gordon, Grace Montgomerie and Elli Torrisi did a great job talking to all the interested parents and visitors about our databases that we use daily at school. They talked about Destiny library, Sora ebooks and Clickview video library.
The Australian reading hour began as an event for all Australians to set aside one hour on one day to read where ever they were and however they chose to read. It has since become an annual program to encourage a love of reading. Thanks for coming along and supporting this on Tuesday
Happy Reading
Belinda Walker (Teacher Librarian)
