Dear Parents and Carers
Jason Bennett and I are headed to Sydney today to present at an Information Technology Conference where we will be sharing some of the amazing work that is taking place in our school and classrooms. A trial in the Townsville Diocese that sees Jason's role working alongside teachers and students to enhance and promote IT opportunities for student engagement and learning, has caught the attention of some colleagues who would like to know more. I am hoping that we make a good impression.
This week we celebrated two milestone birthdays Mrs Oram and Ms Rowan both enjoying a 'significant' celebration. I am sure you will join with me in wishing them a very Happy Birthday.
This Friday is a huge day across school communities, where we will celebrate World Teachers Day and Day for Daniel.
On World Teachers Day we acknowledge the amazing work that our teachers undertake. We are blessed at St. Joseph's to have such a dedicated and professional staff who willingly give of their time and talents to partner with you, parents and carers, to provide students with every opportunity to succeed. I am incredibly grateful for the work they do, the time they give and the dedication they display. Sincerely, thank you. If you have the chance please take time to simply say thank you to the staff this Friday.
Day for Daniel is a National day of recognition for child safety. The Daniel Morcombe story is one that should remind us all of the need to protect our children. Student Protection is everyone's responsibility. Recent legislation changes in Queensland are a result of the ongoing concern and dangers that the online world pose for our students. Unprecedented access online has seen the growth of serious issues around inappropriate material and cyber bullying. Not to mention gaming addiction and social media platforms that allow students access to the world but also allow others access to students. We cannot ignore these concerns, nor can we assume that children are not aware of or will potentially be exposed to these issues. If nothing else this Friday, please take the opportunity to have a conversation with your child about protective behaviours and the importance of staying safe and seeking help should they ever be in need.
Have a great week
Tim
