Dear Parents and Carers
What a way to finish off a great term! Beachathon 2021 was an amazing success. Our 'Kids Can' theme has had amazing results with our students planning and hosting events at school that raised almost $5000. A fantastic effort!
Last weekend the Joey's Luncheon also raised $5000 which was kindly donated to the 'Kids Can' cause. Today we were incredibly proud to hand over $10 000 to St Vincent de Paul to support those in our community who need assistance. I am incredibly grateful for Pam Griffiths and Toni Lee Luck and their team for hosting the very successful luncheon. I am also very grateful for Sandy Simmonds, Trina Neilson and Julie Wallace for making Beachathon happen this year. It was an amazing effort and the result will truly make a difference in peoples lives.
Thanks to our dedicated staff and our creative and enthusiastic students for the way they embraced this years theme. They had a lot of fun along the way and hopefully learned a great deal. We are always very appreciative of the many businesses and families that support our school and this year was no different. Thank you for your generosity and continued support of our school.
Thank you all for your support and patience this term. I hope you have a chance to relax over the break and if you are travelling, please take care. I look forward to seeing you all next term.
Enjoy the break.

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING
At St Joseph’s The Strand, student achievement is recognised and celebrated in many ways throughout the school year; at informal meetings, through awards at school assembly, parent/teacher interviews, through classwork that is sent home, through class oral presentations and through written reports.
Reporting communicates information that has been obtained from a variety of assessment processes and involves a professional judgement made on a body of evidence about a student’s progress and achievement against a set of clearly articulated standards. These standards for each learning area are designed to be consistent across all schools as an essential element of implementing the Australian Curriculum.
There are two main forms of assessment that help to inform a profile for each of our learners. Formative assessment includes a range of formal and informal assessment procedures conducted by teachers during the learning process and summative assessment tasks which are tasks linked to the achievement standards for that year level.
The Australian Government has legislated a number of requirements of schools to ensure parents receive reliable information about their child’s progress. You may have heard your child talk about a class test or assessment and this is most likely a summative task that feeds into their profile for the semester.
Achievement levels are assigned using a five-point scale
- P-1: Applying AP, Making Connections MC, Working With WW, Exploring EX, Becoming Aware BA
- Years 2-6: A, B, C, D, E.
Semester One Reports will be published via Compass today Friday 25th June at 3pm. You will need your Compass username and password to access these reports. Please see the office if you do not have this information.
For instructions on how to access your child's report, please follow the steps outlined in the document below:
St Joseph’s Field Events Carnival 2021
Last Thursday and Friday our students (9 - 12 years) participated in our St Joseph’s Athletics Carnival (Field Events). The carnival, held at Joey’s, included Long Jump, Shot Put and High Jump. Congratulations to all children who participated in the events on your efforts and enthusiasm.
Ryan was worthy overall Aggregate champions with Benjamin lifting the Spirit Trophy in a closely fought battle between all houses.
Thank you to the many members of the St Joseph’s community – staff and parent helpers who gave generously of their time and talents to make our Athletics Carnival 2021 a success. I reinforce that the carnival would not be the success it is without the efforts of parents who contribute so willingly. We now look forward to the St Joey’s Putney Athletics Team representing us at the Interschool Carnival on Tuesday 17th August. The team and relevant training sessions will be announced shortly. Congratulations to all involved in another successful carnival.
