Dear Parents and Carers
World Refugee Day
World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.
World Refugee Day 2021 focuses on the power of inclusion. The shared experience of COVID-19 has showed us that we only succeed if we stand together. We have all had to do our part to keep each other safe and despite the challenges, refugees and displaced people have stepped up. Given the chance, refugees will continue to contribute to a stronger, safer and more vibrant world. This year, they call for greater inclusion of refugees in health systems, schools and sport. Only by working together can we recover from the pandemic. For more information, visit https://www.unhcr.org/en-au/world-refugee-day.html

Heal Country
Every year, Catholics come together across Australia to acknowledge and celebrate the gifts of Australia’s First Peoples.
This year is particularly important following the COVID 19 Pandemic and its impact on the ways in which we interacted and made contact with one another.
Today our world is in need of healing – environmentally, spiritually and socially. We must all come together as a global community to fight the injustices of inequality, racism and environmental damage.
Hope all have a wonderful week,
Trina
Dear Parents and Carers
What a fantastic night it was at the mid-year Instrumental Music Concert this week. There is so much young musical talent at St Joseph's so this was a great opportunity for them to share their gifts with their parents, families and friends, and the school community.
A warm thanks to Jenny Hall, Fiona Moran, Cameron Tipping, Damien Hill, Laurell Bourne and Susan Grinsell for their efforts in preparing the students. I would also like to thank Carolyn Seri for capturing the moments in photos, Jay-Jay Bennett for taking on the MC duties and Paula Bennett for always being a passionate supporter of music and the St Joseph's community. You can check out the special moments here. Lastly, thanks to all of the parents and families that continue to support your children in music.
As we head towards the holidays, I wish everyone a safe and happy break and I look forward to seeing and hearing more wonderful music in term 3.

Instrumental Music Coordinator
St Patrick's Drop Off and Bus Stop
As St Patrick's College is now closed for the June/July holidays, ALL students are to be picked up from classroom or Church pick up.
Students will not be walking to St Pats or catching the bus.
After school drop off to St Pats will begin again Wednesday, 15th July.
Last Friday, St. Joey's once again participated in the Obe Geia Challenge on Palm Island. The day was an incredible opportunity to experience the culture of the island in a round-robin style Rugby League competition involving the two Palm Island schools, Bwgcolman and St. Michael’s. The mainland schools invited were St. Joey’s, Marian, Vincent, Good Shepherd, Kelso, Magnetic Island, Rasmussen, St. Clare’s and Cathedral. The games were fast and furious, played in great spirit showcasing wonderful skills. Whilst the emphasis was on fun, all schools were out to showcase their talents. St Joey’s managed to win 3/4 of their pool games, just missing the final by one try. Rasmussen prevailed over St Clares in a closely fought final. The Joey's team were magnificent with their skill, spirit and most importantly, sportsmanship. The NQ Cowboys staff remarked on our outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. Everyone enjoyed the hospitality and food provided by the local community. The North Qld. Cowboys, are to be commended on organising such a memorable day for all concerned and we thank the major sponsor's Evolution Mining and Sealink. A special thanks go to Miss Higgins for all of her efforts and our generous parent helpers on the day. The ferry ride home was pleasant, with no reports of seasickness. Bring on 2022!
St Joseph’s Athletics Carnival 2021
Last Friday on a beautiful day in Townsville, students participated in our St Joseph’s Athletics Carnival (Track). The carnival, held at the Townsville Sports Reserve, involved all children from Prep to Year 6 in a full program of sprints, 200 metres, 800 metres, relays and ball games. Congratulations to all children who participated in the events for your efforts and enthusiasm. There were many fine performances and great examples of St Joey’s children ‘doing their best'. Thank you to our Year 6 leaders for their team leadership and inspiration to your house groups. The cheering this year was again inspiring.
Thank you to the many members of the St Joseph’s community – staff and parent helpers who gave generously of their time and talents to make our Athletics Carnival 2021 a success. I reinforce that the carnival would not be the success it is without the efforts of parents who contribute so willingly.
We now have our field events; long jump, shot put and high jump at Joey’s.
This week, our Prep students tell us all about their learning in Science.
Thanks to our Prep scientists and Miss Sonia, Miss Lisa and Miss Kelly who create wonderful classrooms for learning.
KIDS CAN at Joey's has been a hive of activity, fun and engagement!
Year Two kicked off our week by selling beautiful screen printed bags and scrunchies.
PJ's and Popcorn led by Year One caused quite a stir! Who would have thought PJ's were such a hit.
The Bake Sale caused our stomachs to rumble with the delicious food made and sold by our Year Three students.
Market Day today saw Year Five turn trash into TREASURE! Coupled with the genius student-created product and stalls from Year Six, we were left with empty wallets!
Want more?
Next week Prep will be leading an Art Gallery and Year Four will be hosting a Movie in the Hall.
KIDS CAN create...KIDS CAN design...KIDS CAN!
Many thanks to our wonderful sponsors who have donated some amazing prizes for our students for Beachathon Day.
Details about Beachathon day will be emailed next week to families.
