LoveIf the love of God really reigns in our heart, it will show itself on the exterior. Catherine McAuley |
Elizabeth BowreyElizabeth showed love and kindness towards another student in prep that was upset during playtime. Elizabeth stopped what she was playing at lunchtime and went over to that student to console them. She then asked that student to come and play with her and her friends. Well done Elizabeth for your kindness and being a great role model for our junior students at St Joey’s. |
Brooke GordonBrooke has consistently been a shining light in 4B. She sets a wonderful example of how encouraging others to join in games or to have a go at challenging classroom tasks and activities can make a big difference to her peers. She checks on those who look like they may need a kind word or gentle encouragement. Congratulations Brooke! |

CommunityNo matter how small the gift, God gives the increase. Catherine McAuley |
Francesca FergusonFrankie showed great kindness in the playground. Another student was upset because she did not have any equipment to play with. Frankie saw her crying, stopped playing straight away, and gave her the bouncer she was using. Frankie comforted her. It was wonderful to see her put another person first in such a lovely way. Thank you Frankie for caring for others and building a community of kindness at St Joey’s. |

Isabelle GoodwinIsabelle showed admirable compassion, kindness and bravery when she chose to stay and be partners with another student who was having trouble finding a group. She did this so quietly and without a fuss. It was amazing to watch her commit to being a loving neighbour, despite her other friends not being a part of her group. Thank you for standing up for what is right Isabelle and for staying true to yourself, you should be so proud. |
ExcellenceWe can never say, ‘it is enough.’ Catherine McAuley |
Jack French-NorthamJack has been learning to play the drums in 2021. He approaches his lessons with enthusiasm, is an active listener, and a polite student. It is clear that Jack devotes himself to practice as he is showing excellent progression in rhythm and timing. Jack should be proud of himself! |

Jonah AllenJonah has displayed excellence whilst representing Joey’s at the Interschool Cross Country carnival. His incredible 3rd placing for Townsville, was not just a result of his superhuman effort on the day, but his persistence and effort in training for this event. More than natural ability was needed to excel in this event. Jonah not only showed great courage to push himself beyond his comfort zone, he also kept alive the reputation of Joey’s kids showing excellent sportsmanship. The first thing that Jonah did after crossing the line, was to find the 1st and 2nd placegetters and shake their hands and congratulate them on their efforts. Well done, Jonah! |

Ethan KellyEthan has shone brightly this term. By striving for high standards, he has gone beyond his best. Ethan has consistently shown rigour in each task and is taking responsibility for his own progress. He set a goal to improve his writing and he has blitzed that goal thanks to this impressive attitude towards his learning. Congratulations Ethan! |
School Photos will be held on Tuesday, 8th June and Wednesday, 9th June.
Photo envelopes have been sent home with all students.
Sibling photo envelopes are available at the office.
Readers are leaders
Congratulations Kate, Madison, Sienna, Grace, Jordan, and Elli for achieving blue or red level. Congratulations to Daniel, and Audrey who are now at bronze level.
These children have been reading in their own time using the Learning Zone program to complete quizzes and track their own achievements. Ask them to show you the program at home and see how many words they have read. There are 5 levels to progress through hopefully each time they receive a certificate their reading is improving.
Book club
This has been ordered and should arrive back in two weeks.
Shakespeare
Amazingly all of us use Shakespeare sayings every day. Even though reading Shakespeare may not have been an enjoyable experience for all of us, it is remarkable how many sayings come straight from Shakespeare. Check out this tool to discover which literary work they came from.
Do you use any of these sayings? Maybe you are a fan after all.
Happy Reading

2021 Rugby Gala Day
Congratulations to both St. Joey’s Rugby Union teams who participated in the annual Rugby Gala Day at Hugh Street last Friday. St. Joseph’s capped off a successful day with both of our teams making the final after both teams winning 3/4 of their pool games. Our mighty juniors were defeated in the final by a bigger and stronger Currajong State School team. The boys toiled until the end and gave a great account of themselves. The seniors played a hard fought final, with Heatley State School proving to be worthy winners. All players in both teams deserve credit for the way they conducted themselves, showing great team spirit and sportsmanship. Isaac De Jongh and Atticus Rahmel were awarded prizes as team players for their respective teams. Queensland Reds players were on hand to make these presentations. A big thanks to our senior coaches; Mr. Allan, Mr. Fanning, Mr. Griffiths and junior coach Mr. Finlay who did superb jobs in marshalling their troops. Their efforts were greatly appreciated by our teams. A special thanks go to Mrs. Finlay who did a wonderful job as scorer for both teams. This memorable day has become a feature on the Townsville Primary School Sport calendar.

There will be a range of snacks and drinks available at the Red Track Canteen on Athletics Day.

KIDS CAN LOGO MASTERS
![]() |
With over 150 entries and 60 finalists... how could we decide on the logo for 2021 Beachathon? The solution was easy ....KIDS CAN decide. A designer has been found! Year 6 Pastoral Leaders set up the hall ready for the voting to begin. Voters were armed with a piece of lego to place in the corresponding logo's box. Congratulations Greta Ramsay for creating our amazing logo. |
