Blessing for Mothers
Mary is the mother of our Catholic church and to her we pray to intercede for us:
Holy Mary, Mother of Our Lord Jesus,
Hear my prayer for my own dear mother.
Take her hand as I hold her in my heart and mind.
Let the strength you have known as a mother
Fill her body. Let the devotion you feel for our Lord
Fill her heart. Let the grace that surrounds you
Fill her spirit. Holy Mary, may your divine presence
In my mother’s life, today and every day, bring her joy
And peace forever. Amen.
"From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s will in all things.
From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone.
From Mary we learn to love Christ her Son and the Son of God.”
ST POPE JOHN PAUL II
200 Years of Catholic Education
This year, Catholic Education is celebrating 200 years in Australia, marking the bicentenary of the first Catholic school established in Parramatta in October 1820. Over 200 years, Catholic schools have grown to become the largest provider of schooling in Australia (outside government) with one in five school-age students attending a Catholic school. This represents 777,000 students in 1,755 schools across the country and employing over 100,000 teachers and staff. Nearly 40 percent of Catholic schools are located outside of metropolitan cities in regional, rural and remote communities. The formal celebrations were due to be held from October 2020 to October 2021. However, due to pandemic restrictions, the celebrations are now being held during the 2021 school year. A National Mass is being celebrated in states and dioceses on the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians on 24 May 2021.

This week, we recognised students who espouse the Mercy Values of Love, Community and Excellence.
Congratulations to all!
Love AwardIf the love of God really reigns in your heart, it will show itself on the exterior. Catherine McAuley |
Hannah Campbell Whilst at playtime, Hannah could see that a student in prep was hurt. She selflessly gave up the game she was playing with her friends and volunteered to take the Prep student to the sickbay for help. Well done Hannah for showing love in our school. |
Daniel O'Brien Daniel O’Brien is giving of his time and cares for others. He has recently been helping one of his classmates who has an injury. He regularly shares his skills with anyone in need and always offers to assist peers and staff when he sees a way he can help. He never expects anything in return and does it with a smile. Congratulations Daniel! |
Hannah Mosch Hannah constantly thinks of others before herself and always looks for ways to help other classmates. Her compassionate, thoughtful and patient nature benefits many people in her grade. Congratulations Hannah on living out the Mercy Value of Love. |
Adam Ponti Adam is full of love in the purest way. It is so clear he loves being in 4A and all his classmates love having him there too. Love isn't always shown in what you say or do, it can just beam out of you like sunshine, like the way it does out of our Adam. He smiles a big bright smile or takes your hand to show he loves you. Congratulations Adam! |
Community AwardNo matter how small the gift, God gives the increase. Catherine McAuley |
Sam Parsons Sam is the first to offer help to anyone in need. He encourages his classmates every day with their work and on the playground. He tries to cheer others up when they are sad. Sam is thoughtful, respectful and kind. He gives up what he has so others are happy. Well done for helping to build a peaceful, caring community Sam! |
Elli Torrisi Elli Torrisi has started a storytelling club which has become very popular. Students are invited to come to the library and discover more about each other by talking about different topics either personal or of general interest. They are listening to each other’s opinions and presenting their own. This is a very successful community-building activity and Elli had the vision and drives it really well. Congratulations Elli! |
Charlie Ashfield During a lunch break, Charlie saw a large food spill from a younger student. Without prompting, he began to clean up the spill. Well done, Charlie for taking care of our school environment. Congratulations Charlie! |
Excellence AwardWe can never say 'it is enough'. Catherine McAuley |
Marco Carini Marco works hard in all tasks each day with accuracy and precision. He displays excellence not only in the classroom but also in many different settings. Well done Marco! |
Riley Webb Riley attempts all learning tasks with rigor and determination. He has worked extremely hard to improve his Maths grade and recently moved up two grades in his last assessment. He always provides thorough and detailed answers in every subject and participates enthusiastically in discussions. Congratulations Riley on showing your excellence. |

Junior Librarians: Our students were in the spotlight this week. Together they created a video to promote what they do at lunchtime to cater to students visiting the library.
I still believe that their most valuable role is helping their peers during class borrowing times. They are trained to recommend and help students find books that they will enjoy reading. When you know your friends well you often know what interests them and this is an important key to get students hooked on reading. Today many of our junior librarians received their badges to acknowledge their work done in the library. Congratulations to Grace Montgomerie, Amelia Sloan, Louie Lando, Daniel O'Brien, Elli Torrisi, Abagail Le, Harper Ryan, Lillian Rasmussen, Hannah Mosch, Violet Seri, Estella Dobbins, Lynette Njau, Caitlyn Wiltshire, and Phoebe Morris. (Outlined in year level order.)
Want a certain title in our Library Collection: We try to keep our library current and thriving and have as many titles available as possible. I will always welcome students to recommend books that we ought to buy for our collection. There is a growing list of recommendations that I buy at the end of each term.
