Catholic Identity

Cohort Masses

In the first two weeks of Term Three, our Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3 classes celebrated Friday morning Mass with Fr Sylvester and Fr Gideon.

These masses provided our students with an opportunity to hear the Gospel and celebrate the Eucharistic meal together in a prayerful location.

Our Year 6 students will celebrate Mass together as a cohort on Friday, 19th September. All are welcome.

St Mary Mackillop of the Cross Feast Day

On Friday, 8th August, our school community will come together for whole school meditation to celebrate the Feast Day of St Mary Mackillop of the Cross.

8th August is the day she died in 1909 in Sydney at the age of 67.  Mary’s influence on education and bringing God to the people, especially the poor, is one of the most remarkable stories in our Australian history.  She remains our only Australian Saint.  Our school community is fortunate to be part of this story, and the Josephite Sisters began St Joseph's over 150 years ago.

Below is a traditional Novena prayer calling on Mary MacKillop to help people in times of need. It is a tradition in the Catholic Church that is usually a nine-day period of meaningful praying. Most people use it when they or someone else needs God's special love and care.

NOVENA TO ST MARY OF THE CROSS MACKILLOP

Ever generous God,

You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop to live her life faithfully to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to be constant in bringing hope and encouragement to those who were disheartened, lonely, sick or needy.

With confidence in your generous providence and joining with Saint Mary MacKillop, we ask that You grant our request.

We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit so that we, too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage, trust and openness.

Ever generous God, hear our prayer.

We ask this through Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Soccer Star - Fr Sylvester

This week, we welcomed Fr Sylvester onto the oval to play soccer. Fr Sylvester learnt the 'intricate' rules of soccer at Joeys and was able to assist the teams to score several goals.

Fr Sylvester is hoping to join Joey's kids for a game of Walla in the coming weeks.

Hope all have a wonderful few weeks,

Trina Neilson
